On top of some amazing action from day 1 of Global Divestment Day, day 2 saw a further 20 events unfold across the UK. They join a whopping total of 450 events from over 60 countries worldwide. Here are a few highlights:

Campaigners took to the street of Huddersfield with bubbles, power ballads and a giant red broken heart to call for an end to our collective love affair with fossil fuels.

The group toured the town with the heart, stopping off at branches of Lloyds, Barclays, RBS and at council offices to urge them to break up with the fossil fuel industry.

At City Hall in London the rain didn’t dampen over 500 people’s spirits as they joined a gaggle of Boris Johnson lookalikes to spell out ‘Divest London’ in giant letters and call on the Greater London Authority (GLA) to divest.

Speakers from impacted communities in Columbia and Bangladesh spoke of the direct implications to their communities of these investment decisions.

In Edinburgh the fossil free dinosaur came out to warn the council off fossil fuel investments, while campaigners showed the love for things they wanted to protect from climate change.

Fresh from the good news of the council divesting, local authorities felt the heat around the country with colourful rallies in Oxford, demonstrations in Birmingham and new campaign launching in Cambridge.
