Copy the letter below to send to your pension fund!
[You can find the Dutch version here]
Dear [name],
As a participant in your fund, it is of crucial important to me that my pension is financially secure as well as contributing to a liveable world. That is why I am concerned about your fund’s partnership with BlackRock.
BlackRock invests $400 billion in fossil companies worldwide, playing a key role in the climate crisis. Despite making pledges on sustainability, BlackRock continues to enable fossil expansion, has dropped out of the Net Zero Asset Manager Alliance and no longer supports climate resolutions at shareholder meetings, undermining a key tool available to investors for transitioning corporations. Moreover, Blackrock has lobbied strongly against EU due diligence laws which would have required it to carry out its business more responsibly.
By using BlackRock’s services, your fund reinforces the influence and power of one of the largest investors in fossil companies. This puts our planet as well as our pension assets at risk.
I therefore urge you to:
- End the partnership with BlackRock;
- Use asset managers who embrace sustainability in word and deed
- Be transparent about which asset managers you work with.
By breaking with BlackRock, you will send a strong signal: our pension money should not contribute to climate disruption. By choosing asset managers that make truly responsible investments, you would strengthen these sustainable institutions. This decision would send a powerful signal to the financial sector and the world.
Looking forward to your response.
Kind regards
