SACRAMENTO, CA — Ahead of an upcoming vote on a bill in the California State Legislature that would drastically curtail oil consumption in the state, 350.org’s Senior Analyst Brett Fleishman issued the following statement:

“We’re proud to join the growing list of organizations standing with S.B. 350, and against the lies of the oil industry. We support this bill in its original form, and oppose  last minute proposed amendments that would weaken California’s clean energy initiatives. This bill would help the world’s eighth-largest economy turn away from an industry that’s causing climate change by exploiting communities, and put California on a path to being a global leader in the fight against climate change. S.B. 350 is a step toward climate leadership, and that’s why we’ve seen Big Oil do what it always does in recent weeks — throw lies at anything that hurts their bottom line, simply to maintain the status quo for as long as possible. The good news is: that strategy won’t work forever, because no matter what this industry says, fossil fuels are on the way out and renewables are on the rise.”
