What a night.
On January 31, the day after Trump’s State of the Union, we hosted Fossil Free Fast: The Climate Resistance in Washington D.C. We were joined by movement leaders from across the country to deliver a bold agenda for resisting Trump and uniting local climate struggles in the fight for a Fossil Free world.
Thousands of people packed into the biggest auditorium we could find in DC to hear these powerful speakers address the state of our climate and our movement. Yet for all the panache and passion of our guest speakers, they weren’t the main event. You and others like you who are building this movement as we speak are the ones who will make this vision a reality.
There were over 300 watch parties across the country where people discussed and strategized what Fossil Free could look like in their communities, and thousands more tuned in on their own. Already, the seeds of a mass movement are being planted.
Already hundreds of people across the country have signed up for follow-up calls to discuss how to move the fight for a Fossil Free world forward in their communities.
Last night we heard President Trump’s State of the Union, but what we did not hear was a single mention of climate change. Tonight, join me and tens of thousands of people across the U.S. as we tune in to chart the path to go #FossilFree.https://t.co/TcTqUcenCX

.@BernieSanders: The days of the fossil fuel industry are numbered. But we need *everyone* to come together if we are to meet the challenge of climate change and bring about a renewable energy economy for all #FossilFree #ClimateResistance #energydemocracy #FossilFreeFast pic.twitter.com/1HGikJ1gLy

As @billmckibben just said, there’s three arms in the fight for #FossilFree:
1. A fast and just transition to 100% renewable energy for all.
2. An end to new fossil fuel projects.
3. Not. A. Penny. More for dirty energy.

“It’s not about changing light bulbs at this point, it’s about changing politics. A politician who believes in climate change is too low of a bar – we need more.”
