{"id":8786,"date":"2017-11-21T21:32:19","date_gmt":"2017-11-21T21:32:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gofossilfree.org\/usa\/?p=8786"},"modified":"2018-03-08T23:59:10","modified_gmt":"2018-03-08T23:59:10","slug":"350co-ffus-candidate-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gofossilfree.org\/usa\/350co-ffus-candidate-forum\/","title":{"rendered":"Coloradans Host Gubernatorial Candidate Forum To Go Fossil Free"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWill you pledge not to take money from the fossil fuel industry for your campaign?\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhat are concrete steps that we can count on your administration to do, while your in office, to move Colorado to a just 100% renewable energy economy by 2035?\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIf elected, what specific mechanisms will you utilize as Governor to ensure that Colorado does its part to achieve emissions reductions in line with the Paris Agreement in keeping the majority of fossil fuels safely underground?\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><b>These are just a few of the questions the climate organizers asked seven candidates running for Governor here in Colorado last Sunday at the community-hosted statewide candidate forum.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In coordination with over 70 house parties kicking off the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gofossilfree.org\/usa\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fossil Free Resolutions Campaign<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a coalition of climate, immigration and electoral organizations came together to grill the 2018 Gubernatorial candidates on the issues that matter most. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event took place last Sunday the 12th in a cathedral on the campus of a Denver community college. Slices of warm blue, gold and green light cut through the hall packed with about 300 people. On the stage were seven candidates running for the State\u2019s highest office &#8212; 5 Democrats, 1 Republican, and 1 Independent.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gofossilfree.org\/usa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/11\/Screen-Shot-2017-11-21-at-4.27.36-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8787 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/gofossilfree.org\/usa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/11\/Screen-Shot-2017-11-21-at-4.27.36-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"624\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gofossilfree.org\/usa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/11\/Screen-Shot-2017-11-21-at-4.27.36-PM.png 624w, https:\/\/gofossilfree.org\/usa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/11\/Screen-Shot-2017-11-21-at-4.27.36-PM-300x198.png 300w, https:\/\/gofossilfree.org\/usa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/11\/Screen-Shot-2017-11-21-at-4.27.36-PM-430x284.png 430w, https:\/\/gofossilfree.org\/usa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/11\/Screen-Shot-2017-11-21-at-4.27.36-PM-20x13.png 20w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The goal of the forum was to get the candidates on the record and elevate the standard for what real climate leadership looks like: a Fossil Free world with no new fossil fuel projects and 100% renewable energy for all. We launched a tool for the movement to engage with candidates up and down the midterm ballot:<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/peoplesplatform.info\"><b>Colorado People\u2019s Climate Justice Platform.<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The platform is a tool for grassroots groups to organize under our shared vision &#8212; further connecting social justice and climate justice. <\/span><b>Coloradans will use this platform to push candidates towards our vision of a fast and just transition to 100% renewable energy for all. We will continue to grow the coalition of grassroots groups endorsing the Colorado People\u2019s Platform, and show candidates at all levels of government that the people want a Fossil Free world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People across America are getting to work to build a world that puts people and the planet we depend on first. If we take back local power and demand this type of bold and meaningful change, we can create an upswell of support for our shared vision of the world: one free from fossil fuels with 100% renewable energy for all.
