For many people around the world it is a deeply present reality.<\/p>\n<p>We organize for divestment because we believe it is wrong for people to profit from the wreckage of the planet. <strong>In the lead up to the Global Divestment Mobilisation, 350.org staff and volunteers around the world have recorded their own messages reporting on what is happening in their communities.<\/strong> These messages are a key reason we work for a fossil free future.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Ahmed: South Africa<\/h3>\n<p>South Africa, and much of eastern and southern Africa have been facing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/03\/27\/world\/africa\/famine-somalia-nigeria-south-sudan-yemen-water.html?_r=0\">extreme drought. <\/a>The city of Cape Town is experiencing an intense water shortage. When Ahmed from 350 Africa recorded this video there were only about 100 days of water left, now there&#8217;s only around <a href=\"http:\/\/ewn.co.za\/2017\/04\/24\/city-of-cape-town-tightens-restrictions-on-water-usage\">88 days.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>During <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gofossilfree-org.gofossilfree.org\/south-africa\/\">Global Divestment Mobilisation (GDM)<\/a>,<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/350africa.org\/\">350Africa<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/fossilfreesa.org.za\/\">Fossil Free South Africa<\/a> under the<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gofossilfree.org\/\"> Go Fossil Free<\/a><\/strong> banner, will be calling on Cape Town to demonstrate its political power and commit to <a href=\"https:\/\/act.350.org\/sign\/divest-cape-town\/\">divesting<\/a> from destructive fossil fuels.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MicBhJECtH4\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Juan Pablo: Argentina<\/h3>\n<p>In early April 2017, southern Argentina was hit by severe floods, with reports that <a href=\"http:\/\/en.mercopress.com\/2017\/04\/04\/torrential-rains-and-mudslides-destroy-80-of-comodoro-rivadavia\">80% of the city of Comodoro Rivadavia<\/a> was impacted. Juan Pablo Olsson from 350.org Argentina was there to witness what happened. Other parts of Latin America also experienced heavy flooding, with Peru struggling with the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideclimatenews.org\/news\/24032017\/peru-floods-extreme-weather-climate-global-warming-el-nino\">worst floods in a century.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Tt3fVZmFPuE\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Nicole: Brazil<\/h3>\n<p>Curitiba is the capital of the southern Brazilian state of Paran\u00e1. Nicole from 350 Brasil shares about how climate changes are impacting nature and people in the city.<\/p>\n<p>In <b>Paran\u00e1, B<\/b><b>razil<\/b> young people will <a href=\"http:\/\/act.350.org\/event\/gdd2017\/13580\/\">marching in the Students\u2019 Square <\/a>demanding climate justice, and at the <a href=\"http:\/\/act.350.org\/event\/gdd2017\/13551\/\">Umuarama Cathedral<\/a> the faith community will gather in a vigil demanding divestment.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DFqGBMuXdnU\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Brett: United States<\/h3>\n<p>Brett lives in Boulder, Colorado in the United States. In March 2017, a wildfire broke out near the city prompting\u00a0evacuations. Wildfire season shouldn&#8217;t start for several more months. Because of climate change it is expected that wildfires will be more common and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2016\/10\/10\/climate-change-western-forest-fires-worse\/\">cause more damage.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QxS8xeAQ1-E\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Mikaele: Tokelau<\/h3>\n<p>Mikaele is from the island nation of Tokelau that is one of the countries most at risk of climate change.
