Since launching the Divest Parliament campaign in December 2016, we’ve built a national campaign team of volunteers and set to work asking MPs to show climate leadership by pledging to divest the MPs pension fund from fossil fuels.
For the Global Divestment Mobilisation on 9th May we announced that 50 MPs have now committed to divest, and since then over 100 Parliamentary Candidates and prospective MPs have signed up.
Post the election and a new wave of MPs we’re ready to scale up our organising efforts – and we need you!
This training session is open to anyone interested in joining the national Divest Parliament campaign team.
You don’t need to have previous campaign experience to join this campaign – just a commitment to taking action on climate change, the ability to work constructively as part of an inclusive and collaborative team and alignment with the aims and goals of the divestment campaign. We welcome people from across the UK and from all experience levels and backgrounds.
The campaign team is structured into Regional Teams, and is responsible for developing local and national action plans to work with constituents to sign up cross-party MPs to the divestment pledge and celebrate their pledges. It requires a range of skills from organising trainings and events to press, social media, project management and admin – there’s something for everyone.
This is a great opportunity for campaigners new and old to build skills and experience at the centre of an impactful and dynamic national campaign.
The training and planning session will involve:
Day 1: ‘Engaging with MPs’ – building from Hope for the Future’s incredible work, our newly designed training session will give top tips on organising and engaging with MPs, as well as teaching us how to deliver the training in our own regions.
Day 2: Organising Models and planning in Regional Teams – learning from our experiences so far and making action plans for our areas
The training will be held in London, but accommodation and travel subsidy will be provided for those coming from outside London. Food will be provided for all participants.
If you’d like to join the campaign, but can’t make this training session, or would like to be involved at a more local level supporting action in your constituency then please do get in touch – there is space for everyone, and every little bit helps: email@example.com
The work we do is enhanced by having a range of skills, perspectives and backgrounds. If you’re interested in being part of this project but have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch: firstname.lastname@example.org
This is an important campaign at a crucial time – we very much look forward to working with you and taking the Divest Parliament campaign to the next level!
