Williams pipeline deadline imminent, New Yorkers to rally

New York, NY — New York City elected officials will join the Stop the Williams Pipeline Coalition for a rally tomorrow, Thursday, May 16, the day Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York Department of Environmental Conservation must make their decision on the dangerous and unnecessary fracked gas pipeline. The Coalition will hold a rapid response press conference outside of Governor Cuomo’s Manhattan office if the decision comes ahead of Thursday.

This will come after a theatrical action outside Cuomo’s office on Wednesday, May 8 and the “Renewable Heat Now” rally happening in Albany on Monday, May 13.

WHAT: Rally on the Williams pipeline decision-day

WHEN: Thursday, May 16, 2019. 12pm EST. Livestream will be available.

WHERE: City Hall Steps, Manhattan, New York

WHO: Elected officials, members of the Stop the Williams Pipeline Coalition, and allies.

MEDIA AVAILABILITY: Members of the Stop the Williams Pipeline Coalition representing a broad and diverse array of New Yorkers, as well as author of False Demand report, available for interview upon request.

WHY: Over 60 elected officials, including U.S. Representative Jerry Nadler and New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, have announced their opposition to the pipeline, joining the more than 250 groups and nearly 20,000 New Yorkers who stand against the project. Williams, an Oklahoma-based fossil fuel company, is proposing a 23-mile-long pipeline to run from New Jersey out into New York Harbor, passing a mile and a half from Staten Island and connecting to an existing pipeline less than four miles off of Rockaway Beach, the very communities still recovering from Superstorm Sandy over six years later.
