MEDIA ADVISORY: Rally to stop the Williams Pipeline

Cuomo’s Manhattan Office – Wednesday, August 7 – 12:00 PM

New Yorkers will rally outside Governor Cuomo’s office and deliver thousands of petition signatures calling on the Governor and the Department of Environmental Conservation to deny construction permits for the unwanted and unnecessary Williams NESE fracked gas pipeline.

WHAT: Rally to stop the Williams fracked gas pipeline

WHEN: Wednesday August 7, 2019 at 12pm – 1pm

WHERE: Governor Cuomo’s Manhattan Office – 633 3rd Ave, New York, NY 10017

WHO: Speakers will include members of the Stop the Williams Pipeline Coalition NY and Cindy Zipf, executive director of Clean Ocean Action, who is fighting the pipeline in New Jersey.

WHY: In just 6 short weeks this summer, New Yorkers submitted over 25,000 public comments opposing the Williams Pipeline. Since the public comment period has ended, the Governor and DEC could make a decision to deny or approve the pipeline any time now and New Yorkers want to make it clear they say no to the pipeline. This comes as New York legislators celebrate the passage of the CLCPA, as utilities threaten gas shut-offs to vulnerable communities amidst rolling black outs, and following July 2019 marking the hottest month on record. The Williams Company is seeking approval to construct the Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) pipeline to transport fracked gas from Pennsylvania to Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island, but a report from a former NY DEC regional director proves there is no need for the gas. The DEC temporarily denied Williams’ permit in May after determining the project would negatively impact New York waters.
