ADVISORY: Amidst oil crash, New Yorkers to lobby for state pension Fossil Fuel Divestment Act

NEW YORK — New Yorkers will head to Albany on Tuesday, March 17 to lobby for the Fossil Fuel Divestment Act. This comes as a new analysis shows the New York State Common Retirement Fund (NYSCRF) lost over $850 million this year on 18 fossil fuel stocks alone.

WHAT: #DivestNY Lobby Day for the Fossil Fuel Divestment Act

WHEN: Tuesday, March 17, 2020 from 10am – 3:30pmET.

WHERE: New York State Capitol, Albany, New York.

WHO: #DivestNY coalition members, pensioners, state legislators

WHY: New Yorkers launched the demand for Comptroller Tom DiNapoli to divest the state’s pensions from coal, oil, and gas the day after Superstorm Sandy hit over seven years ago. In spite of DiNapoli’s dangerous failure to act, the Fossil Fuel Divestment Act picked up a significant number of supporters and now has 31 Senate sponsors, one away from a majority, and 45 Assembly Member supporters.
