Total’s sponsorship of the Louvre has drawn great media coverage and we’ve already held an exciting artivism training to plan our first creative actions for the coming weeks.

More than 6000 of you have already signed our petitionplease help us to keep building the campaign by sharing it with your friends and relatives. Every signature and tweet helps us to increase the pressure on the Louvre.

In fact, the president of the museum has already responded to us but is so far refusing to explicitly to consider our demands. You can find our correspondence with him here (in french only at this stage).

The Louvre’s response only strengthens our determination to win this campaign. The president’s answer doesn’t actually address our concerns, namely that Total’s activities are incompatible with the climate objectives that were set by the Paris agreement. And that they are equally incompatible with le Louvre’s own mission and values.

The Louvre’s answer actually confirms that last point – we’ve discovered that the museum already refuses sponsorship from the tobacco and the alcohol industry on moral grounds. So by agreeing to maintain its public partnership with Total, they are legitimising and strengthening the fossil fuel industry’s social licence to operate. In other words: Total doesn’t help le Louvre as much as le Louvre helps Total.

We are convinced that, by working together, we can convince the Louvre of this inherent contradiction. Le Louvre remains a bridge between our past and our common future. Stay with us as we mobilise to make it a bridge towards a just transition and a 100% renewable future, rather than one towards climate chaos.

In order to succeed, we will need everyone’s help: your determination and your creativity will be crucial to help us build the campaign.

Thanks again for your help – please keep on spreading the word and sharing our petition.
