Over 70 professors and staff from the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) have called on the institution’s board to go Fossil Free.  It is understood that a decision on whether to pursue a fossil free investment strategy or to invest in the oil, gas and coal companies responsible for driving climate change will be made when the University’s board meets on 25 October.

In the open letter,  over 70 academics call on the university – which has set itself ambitious objectives to be among the greenest in the world – to ensure their investments are in line with those goals, and to match the divestment commitments made by the city of Copenhagen last year.

Investments in fossil fuel industries will compromise UCPHs ambitions, because such investments would comprise financial and moral support to an industry, which for years has undermined the very process of transitioning to a carbon neutral society that UCPH itself seeks to support in research and teaching.   Read the full letter and see the current list of signatories here.

You can help by tweeting the University to show them that all eyes are on Copenhagen as they make this crucial decision.
