Last April 19 2018, youth communities in Jakarta has sparked a momentum to build a fossil free world.
Working in collaboration with CoAction and renewable energy groups, we set in motion the “Fossil Free Indonesia” campaign through public discussion and petition launch at fossilfree.id. Using the tagline “Celebrating Renewable Energy Partnership” this campaign aims for fast and just transition to 100% renewable energy for all.
“#ChooseClean” (#PilihYangBersih) and #BebasEnergiFosil (#FossilFree) are the main hashtags of the discussion. Together with Haris ST. MT from the Indonesia Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, stakeholders from clean energy sector also join the public discussion.
The attendees include the RE expert, Gan Gan Dirgantara, Marlistya Citraningrum (Program Manager Sustainable Transition, IESR), and Laily Syukriah Himayati (Stakeholder Engagement Officer, Hivos). Started with the “We Can Build a #FossilFree World” featured video and Ukulele performance by “UkuIki”, the discussion talks about the dynamics, opportunities and challenges of the renewable energy sector in Indonesia.
Local initiatives on renewables programs also featured in the event that attended by around 130 people. This include the Indonesia National Ulema Council’s project “EcoMasjid” and academic led program the “Bungin Techno Village.”
“Building fossil free future is an attempt to keep the planet’s temperatures at degree that is habitable for humans” says Devin Maeztri, 350.org Indonesia campaigner. “We would like to asks everyone to take a bold action to fight the climate crisis, and invite everyone from the local communities, including the local government for a fast and just transition to 100% renewable energy for all” she added.
Through its campaign platform website fossilfree.id, 350 Indonesia will support accelerate the shift to a new, just, clean energy economy that works for everyone by supporting community-led energy solutions. City by city, town by town, we’re ending the age of fossil fuels and building a world of community-led 100% renewable energy
“This website provide resources, guidelines and materials for those who want to create their own fossil free communities, including for the campaign for 100% transition to renewable energy,” said Irfan Toni Herlambang, Digital Campaigner for 350 Indonesia.
