We’re all connected to organisations that, while supposedly acting for the public good, are heavily invested in the most destructive industry on the planet.

Whether you’re looking to start a divestment campaign in your town, university, church, workplace or elsewhere, there’s an online campaign tool that anybody can use,  a bunch of helpful resources and people on hand to give advice and help out. Go for it!

Cities and Local Authorities

Public money shouldn’t be funding an industry that undermines our future. Municipalities around the world have already committed to divest. It’s about time that yours did too.

There’s a helpful toolkit for running a campaign, an online petition tool, and do get in touch with Danielle at 350 if you want any support. We can help share the experiences of other campaigns, run through campaign ideas,  link you up with others in your area and spread the news about campaign wins  far and wide.

University

Students have often led the way in the fights of conscience, and this struggle is no different. As educational organisations working with our next generation of young people, they have a responsibility to make sure that future is safe from climate chaos.

People & Planet are a student led network empowering young people to make change happen, and they are leading and supporting the university focused work in the UK.

You can find contact details, resources and a handy step by step campaign guide and toolkit on their website.

Religious institutions

Environmental stewardship is a key tenet of many faiths. Fossil fuel divestment is a moral argument, and religious institutions are uniquely positioned to make strong moral arguments.

“With the civil rights movement, the youth led and the churches followed,” points out Fred Small, minister of the Unitarian Universalist First Parish Church in Cambridge, Mass. The students are leading — now it’s time for religious institutions to follow.

Anyone can start a petition to a faith group with the campaign tool, and get in touch if you need support.

Operation Noah is an ecumenical Christian charity leading on UK church divestment through the Bright Now campaign. You can find church related resources and support on their website.

Health

Climate change is one of the most pressing health issues of our time, and many health organisations are acutely aware of the responsibility to take action on climate change.

For support setting up health related campaigns, get in touch with Medact or Healthy Planet at Fossil Free Health.

Other

There are plenty of other organisations with money wrapped up in the fossil fuel industry and ripe for a campaign – from your workplace to your union.

Use the campaign toolkit, online petition tool and get in touch if you’d like some help or advice.
