As hundreds of thousands of people around the world take to the streets on September 21st calling for ‘Action, Not Words’ from global leaders, we’ll be heading up the Fossil Free bloc in London: demanding real leaders ditch fossil fuels.

In preparation for this: join us for a weekend of creative mischief building the biggest inflatable Carbon Bubbles you’ve ever seen!

Giant Inflatable Carbon Bubble Creation Workshop!

The Rag Factory, 16-18 Heneage St (off Brick Lane)London E1 5LJ

Come for as little or as long as you can – everyone welcome!

‘Welcome to Divestment’ talks at 11am and 2pm each day

BUBBLE FOOTBALL AT 3.30PM!

Facebook event here.

The Bubbles we’ll be making are seriously giant and will be the centerpiece of the Fossil Free bloc on September 21st, rampaging around the streets of London.

Whether you can come for half an hour or stick around for an afternoon, we’d love you to be there! Everybody welcome, novice ‘bubblers’ encouraged and snacks available all day.

The aim of the workshop is both to build giant bubbles, and to welcome new people to the movement. Divest London (running the workshop) is a new group looking for new people, ideas and ways to support local campaigns. There’ll be people to chat to all day (even if you don’t want to make bubbles!) about fossil fuel divestment and how to get involved.

‘Welcome to Divestment’ talks (11am and 2pm each day) will bring people up to speed on the movement, what’s happened so far and how to get involved.

We’re incredibly lucky to be working with ‘tools for action’ on this workshop, whose wonderful inflatables have been used in protest in creative and provocative ways in the past. Their giant cobblestones are currently on display at the V&A ‘Disobedient Objects’ exhibition.

The ‘Carbon Bubble’ itself is a financial concept – similar to the housing bubble – created by the overvaluing of fossil fuel stocks on the assumption all current oil, coal and gas reserves can be exploited, when the reality is they can’t (if we are to stick to our global carbon budget and avoid catastrophic climate change).  The ‘Carbon Bubbles’ we’re making represent the enormous reserves held by fossil fuel companies, of which 80% has to remain underground.

We’ll make as many bubbles as we can in the time we’ve got – so please do come, bring your mates, bring their mates and let’s get bubbling! Do join (and share) the Facebook event now.

SO – 6th & 7th Sept: Make some bubbles. Make some friends. Join the divestment movement. See you there! Whoopie.

Can’t make it to the event but want to be involved? Do join us at the Fossil Fuel bloc on Sept 21st, or there’s even a handy ‘how to guide’ to make your own carbon bubble at home (for a climate villain near you!).
