In May 2016, a global wave of mass actions will target the world’s most dangerous fossil fuel projects.

Through peaceful direct action across the globe, we can demonstrate to those in power that people everywhere are prepared to resist the fossil fuel industry’s plans to wreck the planet.

In Paris, governments made promises to end the fossil fuel age. But promises mean nothing without action, and fast.

So where governments fail to act, it’s up to ordinary people to step in and do what’s needed to address the climate crisis. The last two years have smashed global temperature records, but have also seen the explosion of a global movement calling for the Just Transition to the clean and fair energy system we all need.

Thanks to historically low prices and our movement’s efforts to expose its dangerous business plans, the fossil fuel industry is slipping into financial crisis. We have never had a better chance in history to break free from fossil fuels and build a just transition to clean and renewable energy. This is the moment we’ve been waiting for. Let’s seize it.

In the UK, our plan is two-fold, and will involve taking on the coal industry at its weakest moment in history, to draw a red line under the dirtiest of fuels once and for all.

Reclaim the Power: End Coal Now

April 30th – May 4th, Ffos-y-fran, south Wales

ffosyfran2This May, Reclaim the Power will take mass action to shut down the UK’s largest opencast coal mine – Ffos-y-fran in South Wales – and send a clear message that we have to End Coal Now.

Over the May Day bank holiday weekend, an action camp set up next to the mine will become a base for inspiring workshops, trainings and the chance to build the just, democratic and sustainable community we want to see. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come along and participate, whatever their experience or understanding of mass action.

The camp will take place on the proposed site for another mine, and come just days ahead of Welsh Assembly elections on May 5th.

Ende Gelände

20415836330_96dce1a5a1_oMay 13th – 16th, Lusatia Region (near Berlin), Germany

Last year 1500 ordinary people entered a lignite mine in the Rhineland and shut it down. This May, many hundreds more of us will shut down Vattenfall’s coal mining in Lusatia in an unprecedented mass action of civil disobedience. People will be coming from all over Europe, whatever their previous experience, to join this action – anyone can take part.

There will be coaches and bike rides travelling from all over Europe, and training and community building at camp beforehand.

Join us at Ende Gelände in Germany this May.

By coordinating our escalation across the planet this May, we can show the fossil fuel industry that they have no place left to run: the world is through with their pollution, their corruption and their greed.
Together, let’s make this the turning point.
