A year from now, world leaders will gather in Paris to have another shot at securing a global climate deal. Given their far from impressive track record, we’re not taking our chances.  We know that world leaders won’t act in accordance with the urgency of the climate crisis as long as the fossil fuel industry still  holds the balance of power.

That’s why our growing divestment movement is directly challenging the social license of these rogue corporations who continue to seek profits at the expense of people and planet.  In just two years we have already secured huge divestment victories that are putting the industry on the backfoot.

But we need as many forces in society as possible to stand up to this rogue industry.
So, this February, we’re calling the first ever Global Divestment Day and we’d like your Fossil Free campaign to join in.

On February 13 and 14, we need thousands of people everywhere to turn out and take collective action demanding our institutions do what is necessary for climate action by divesting from fossil fuels.

To help you plan your involvement, we’re providing web workshop opportunities (next one: 9 December), downloadable resources and all the support you need to get started.

Exciting plans are already taking shape on 5 different continents, from Africa to Australia and Europe to East Asia

  • Students will hold flash-mobs, vigils, sit-ins and rallies calling upon their university endowments to invest in a liveable future.
  • Individuals in the UK, South Africa and Australia will close their accounts with banks and pension funds investing in climate chaos.
  • Faith leaders and people living on the frontlines of climate change will band together to urge their communities to divest from climate destruction.
  • In financial capitals, people will gather for large, colourful rallies calling on investors to break up with the fossil fuel industry and sever their ties once and for all.

Get involved – start planning an action for Global Divestment Day this February.  Let’s make fossil fuels history.

Together, we will show that we are a truly global and growing force to be reckoned with. As the fossil fuel industry throws more money at fossil fuel expansion, we will turn up the volume of our divestment movement. And we won’t stop until we win.
